Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 20, 2026
NEWPROTEST Writer is a quiet place to write. We collect as little as we can, and we don’t sell your data or your words.
We never use your writing to train AI
We do not use your writing, notes, or any content you create in NEWPROTEST Writer to train, fine-tune, evaluate, or improve any artificial-intelligence, machine-learning, large language model (LLM), or generative-AI system. We do not sell, license, share, or transmit your content to any third party for those purposes, and we do not feed it to any AI or LLM provider. Your words are yours — full stop.
This Privacy Policy explains what information NEWPROTEST Writer (“the Service,” “we,” “us”), operated by NEWPROTEST Publishing of Olympia, Washington, collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
- Account information — the email address and display name you provide, and a securely hashed version of your password.
- Your writing — the projects, chapters, scenes, and notes you create and store in the Service.
- Preferences & environment — settings such as your chosen theme, light/dark mode, and writing style, plus a coarse device category (e.g. mobile or desktop), browser viewport size, and reduced-motion preference, reported by a small first-party signal to help us improve the Service.
- Basic usage analytics — first-party records of page visits and referring sources, used to understand how people find and use the Service. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking networks.
- Cookies & local storage — a session cookie to keep you signed in, a timezone cookie so dates read in your local time, and browser local storage used to remember preferences and (optionally) cache your work for offline use on your device.
How we use information
- To operate the Service — sign you in, save and display your writing, and sync it across your devices.
- To personalize your experience, such as remembering your theme and writing preferences.
- To send you account and milestone emails (for example, a welcome note or a writing-progress message). These are limited and tied to your activity.
- To understand overall usage, maintain reliability, and protect the Service and its users from abuse.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information or your writing. We share information only:
- With service providers who help us run the Service — for example, our web host and our email delivery provider — who process data on our behalf.
- With other users, only as you direct — content you publish to the shared Library, or share with a Trusted Reader, becomes visible to those people. Your private Notes are never shared.
- When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of the Service and its users.
Data retention & backups
We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. We maintain backups for reliability and disaster recovery, which may persist for a limited period after deletion. You can export your manuscripts to Word (.docx) at any time, and you can request deletion of your account.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and hashed passwords. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices
You can access and update your account details while signed in, export your work, and ask us to correct or delete your data. To make a request, contact us via the contact page.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date above. Your continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
